To the forum team.

I fully understand that you have other problems apart from mine to deal with but I would really appreciate some feedback.

As per details in this thread I can receive mail on my main email address but I have to reply to these emails using one of my other back up email address’s.

As you can appreciate this is confusing for the sender and inconvenient to me.

The good news is that I can now send and receive using my main email address.Smiley Happy

Can we ask IT to take another look at the account?

There appears to be a disconnect between the POP3/IMAP and SMTP passwords.  I will share my evidence via PM but essentially

Techifan can receive mails but he can only send via smtp.ntlworld.com with authentication turned off.  We have tried changing the password over at my.virginmedia.com BUT the result is the same.

We have done a test with SMTP authentication and we get the result:

535 5.7.8 Authentication Credentials Invalid (VM300)

However techifan did try using the settings

  • My outgoing server requires authentication
  • Use the same details as my incoming server

Which has lead me to this conclusion.

I should add that this is affecting ALL email addresses (Primary and secondary on his account).

Correction - 3 out of 9 email addresses are having this problem.
