Can receive but not send emails, have NOT changed password

I am using Apple Mail and an old ntlworld account which has worked for years but now suddenly I can't send any emails. It opens a dialogue box asking for my password hich I enter. It then says identity or password not recognised. As far as I know nothing has been changed and I can access webmail using that identity and password.

Re: Can receive but not send emails, have NOT changed password

Follow the instructions in message 2 of this thread:

https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Email/Outgoing-mail-issues-but-receive-okay-Any-ideas/td-p/4426...

We need the output, just the VM3xx code to see what may be going on. Nothing else.

Re: Can receive but not send emails, have NOT changed password

You should be able to use connection doctor look at what's happening in more detail.  However what you could try is this

Open a Terminal Window (type Terminal into the search bar on your Mac)

Type in the following command

curl smtps://smtp.virginmedia.com/ -u username:password 2>&1 | grep "235\|VM"

Replace username with your full email address and password with your email password.

Post the response only.

Re: Can receive but not send emails, have NOT changed password

Doh!

My error it should have been

curl -v smtps://smtp.virginmedia.com/ -u username:password 2>&1 | grep "235\|VM"

Would you try again?  I'll just go and have a cold shower to wake me up.

Re: Can receive but not send emails, have NOT changed password

If you log in to webmail using that username and password does it work?

Tim

Edit - alternatively can you do the following.

In a web browser - go to https://whatismyipaddress.com and copy and paste your public IPv4 address

Then go to https://spamhaus.org/lookup and let us know the results.  Don't post your IP address on here though.

Dear Tim,

Yes I've just logged out and then in again using that username and password and it worked.

Re: Can receive but not send emails, have NOT changed password

I've added to my previous post - would you mind checking to see if your IP is listed on Spamhaus.  (ignore the PBL listing though)
