Blueyonder email with Windows 10 mail client: "Your account settings are out of date"

I am trying to use the native Windows 10 Mail app to access my blueyonder.co.uk email account. When I add the account the Mail app spends a long time (5+ minutes) attempting to retrieve mail, but never retrieves anything. After a while I get an exclamation mark next to the Blueyonder account entry in the Mail app, and the message "your account settings are out of date".

I have tried both the POP and IMAP settings from this link, but get exactly the same problem with each:

https://help.virginmedia.com/system/templates/selfservice/vm/help/customer/locale/en-GB/portal/20030...

I have removed and re-added the account (a couple of times). I have also tried the "Fix account" option, all without success.

The password that I am using is definitely correct, as I can use exactly the same password to access my Blueyonder email account via webmail without any problems.

I've checked all of those settings and they are all in line with the values in your post. The problem continues.

Re: Blueyonder email with Windows 10 mail client: "Your account settings are out of date"

https://windowsreport.com/account-settings-out-of-date-windows-10-mail-app/

I'd try option 3 first, followed by 4 and then 5, before resorting to reinstalling the app, option 1.

Microsoft advice is here: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/your-account-settings-are-out-of-date-in-mail-or-calendar-f... but appears not to have worked in your case.

Good luck.

Have a look at post #5 in this thread https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Email/syncing-ntlworld-e-mails-to-Outlook-on-new-laptop/td-p/37...

It may help with your issue.

Nothing new on that post, I'm afraid, and the SFC/AV idea from the other link didn't help either

Re: Blueyonder email with Windows 10 mail client: "Your account settings are out of date"

I've got nothing further.... Maybe somebody else on the forum can help?

Or go with option 7 from this link: https://windowsreport.com/account-settings-out-of-date-windows-10-mail-app/  Use another email client.

Re: Blueyonder email with Windows 10 mail client: "Your account settings are out of date"

The Windows Mail app’s use of server settings is strange, have you tried entering them thus:

imap.virginmedia.com:993:1
smtp.virginmedia.com:465:1
SSL ticked
Sync set to all mails

As a Very Insightful Person, I'm here to share my knowledge. I don't work for Virgin Media.

I did point the OP to those settings in my post #5 in this thread, in fact to a post of yours giving the same settings.

I also pointed the OP to the VM Help and Support page here https://help.virginmedia.com/system/templates/selfservice/vm/help/customer/locale/en-GB/portal/20030... in post #2 advising "Check the Windows 10 Settings as well."

Perhaps the OP missed that so I'll now add them in this post.

Your Name

The name you entered when you set up the account.

Email

The slider should be in the On position.

Incoming email server

imap.virginmedia.com:993:1

Outgoing (SMTP) email server

smtp.virginmedia.com:465:1

Outgoing server requires authentication

Ticked

Use the same user name and password for sending mail

Ticked

Require SSL for incoming mail

Ticked

Require SSL for outgoing email

Ticked

It's not clear if the OP tried all of the steps from link https://windowsreport.com/account-settings-out-of-date-windows-10-mail-app/ or only steps 4 and 6 but step 3 is certainly worth a try.

If all the steps were tried, and still no resolution, then the only reasonable option left is step 7, use another email client.

Re: Blueyonder email with Windows 10 mail client: "Your account settings are out of date"

Yes I have in fact tried both settings for the IMAP server:

imap.virginmedia.com:993:1 / smtp.virginmedia.com:465:1

and

imap.virginmedia.com / smtp.virginmedia.com

I'm not sure why there are two versions of this on Virgin Media's site, or how to tell which are theoretically correct, but neither resolves the problem.

I also tried solutions 3,4 and 5 from the WindowsReport link. It's looking like an alternative mail client may be the only solution, but TBH that's not a great solution to the problem.
