Like any new product at launch, the console does have the odd teething issue, and we’re going to look at the most common problem we’ve seen to help you out if you come across it.

But before we get on to the fix, let's just take a second and celebrate the Switch. Nintendo’s latest console is, like the original Wii, proving popular with both casual and serious gamers alike. The Switch combines a traditional couch 'n' controller gaming system with on-the-go handheld portability allowing gamers to play how and where they like.

We love the Nintendo Switch. Playing the new Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on your daily commute is a sure method to help pass the time. Then, once you’re home, you can switch to being a bold adventurer, exploring the mysterious world of Hyrule with Link in The Legend of Zelda . Simply place the console back into the TV dock and the transformation is complete.

Fix it

The most common issues we’ve seen reported on the Nintendo Switch is Connectivity Failure with a DNS error.

This bug will hopefully be corrected in future firmware updates, but in the meantime, here is simple a step-by-step guide to solving the issue.

Nintendo Switch Error: Could not perform DNS name resolution

1. Restart the Nintendo Switch console.
   Hold the POWER Button down for three seconds, then select "Power Options" followed by "Restart."
   Make sure you don’t accidentally enter Sleep Mode, as the two are easily confused.
   
   
2. Check the DNS settings within the console's Internet settings.
   Access the settings for your saved Internet connection and DNS settings.
   If this setting is set to manual, but is not required for your network, change this setting to "Automatic."
   
   
3. Power cycle your home network.
   Restarting your network devices may resolve this issue if it is unresponsive.
   
   
4. Move the Nintendo Switch console closer to the wireless router.
   The connectivity strength may improve by making moving the two closer together.
5. You should now have full connectivity on your Nintendo Switch.
