Hub 5.jpg

Back in October we announced the launch of the new Hub 5 and we’ll be offering this to customers at no extra cost as part of a phased rollout.

Our next-generation Hub works alongside Virgin Media’s ultrafast broadband network to deliver peak WiFi performance, thanks to WiFi 6.

This latest future-proof WiFi standard, which will work with Virgin Media’s existing DOCSIS 3.1 technology, is designed to power the next-generation of connected devices – including modern smartphones, laptops, tablets and next-gen games consoles.

With this latest technology and even more WiFi antennae than its predecessor, the Hub 5 will be able to support more devices, connecting at the same time, while expanding coverage and stability which improves WiFi performance.

It means the new Hub 5 boasts increased WiFi speeds, lower latency and can help reduce interference from neighbouring hubs and devices.

The Hub 5 has been designed to support multi-gigabit speeds and comes with a 2.5Gbps ethernet port alongside three additional 1Gbps ports.

FAQ

How can I get a Hub 5? / I’m on Gig1 Fibre and need the Hub 5 to maximise my service

We've started to offer the Hub 5 as standard to new Gig1 customers as well as existing customers without a Hub 4 who upgrade to Gig1. Currently there is no other way to get a Hub 5.

Temporarily, due to stock levels at the end of last year and the start of this year. Some Gig1 customers expecting a Hub 5 may have received a Hub 4 instead. We'll be contacting these Gig1 customers to offer them a Hub 5 via email.

What are the specs?

So my speeds are also limited by the the Virgin HUB Four

I really wish they would provide some useful updates on the Virgin HUB FIVE 🙄 😒 😪

How do I post my router statistics

Kind regards

Hi @dmason go to the routers home page do not login click on the link below login that says router status, then go to the downstream tab and copy the data and paste it into a message on the community, you can do the same for the upstream and the network log tabs. That will show the stats.

What are you trying to achieve with this, by the way, this just shows the status of the router and will highlight if you have any channel errors or issues. It won't highlight your throughput or speed of line you need to run line tests through the router for that.

@jamilayz sorry to hear about the experience you have had. As a customer myself I’ve gone back to Hub 4 as my WiFi on hub 5 was not working at all. Just to let you know I had reported SKY to CISAS but CISAS was biased and favoured  the company. Just to let you know that you will have to wait at least 8 weeks before complaining to CISAS from when you first complained to the company.( basically wait 2 months after your first complaint  to Virgin media. then you will be eligible to use The CISAS service).

Any further updates on the on going Virgin HUB FIVE trials?

From recent posts it's still incompatible with pods as well as some older devices.

Is there a Hub 5 pilot/beta program available? I plan to use it in modem mode and just need the 2.5G ethernet port to connect to my 2.5G network as using a dedicated router and wireless access points. Any one of the VM experts able to provide some guidance? Thanks.

Dialled in

On Friday 01/04/2022, my internet speeds dropped to below 100 MBPS as everything started running so slow. Phoned up Virgin Media Technical Department, they asked me to reset my Hub 4 and then try doing Speed Test via Ethernet and WIFI but the speeds were the same.

They have filed an another compliant apparently OFCOM type and will get back to me soon.

Virgin media  customer service is an absolutely joke.

Id like to know too, i dont feel way virgin are dealing with this rollout/beta is good,  I had 1gbit installed last month and I said from the off I want the hub 5 and was passed from piller to post with no definitive answer.   Is it wrong I would like a 2.5gbit ethernet router to use with my 1.1gbit service ?

Torn between waiting for this or getting the Asus XP4 mesh system while it's on offer on Amazon.

BruceT
On our wavelength

@davewillo rather go for the ASUS Mesh, I put the ASUS Zenwifi XT12  mesh it's way better than the HUB  kit and then you use the hub purely as a model. Works very well and lt's way more stable. Just make sure you buy future proof wifi, it's all about the quality and the chipsets you use a cheaper set normally comes with fewer quality chipsets and this has a big impact on your wifi abilities. What a lot of people need to understand often kits the device connecting to the wifi that determines the connection type and the distance from the WIFI unit that gets the speed of throughput to the internet connection,  older devices are not AX enabled and then depending on the device chipset may only connect at 400 Mb's so it's not the line speed its the wifi connect speed. on the XT I am able to get a speed of 960MB's on an AX enabled apple device chipset on a 5Ghz channel if I connect to a 2Ghz  channel I only get 28 to 300MB's connect speed. Both these are still below my network internet speed. The other thing to remember is the contention ratio of your wifi. The more devices connecting the more the signal is shared and that drops the speed to the Modem as well. Good luck with your wifi setup hope you come right.
