VoIP

Can someone please tell me why we as customers of VM are forced or coerced into having a home phone line with its additional cost??

no one uses them anymore.

it should be cheaper to delete this option

when the VoIP goes public it should work out cheaper

Re: VoIP

you aren't forced to have one.
there are broadband only packages with no phone line.

VOIP also is already public, it's the default option now for a "land line", it's supplied via the virgin hub.

also, no-one is being co-erced into anything, you are free to use any service provider you wish.

Re: VoIP

'no one uses them anymore.'

i know a few that still use their landline as do we. a company i deal with will only accept landline calls. the usage has gone down but we are far from the stage that no one uses them.

how many companies just have mobile phone numbers to contact them on....

Re: VoIP

Still use my landline all the time, especially as I'm in a bit of a mobile blackspot and can't have a conversation without it breaking up or dropping completely when at home.

Re: VoIP

It's the DSL providers like BT, TalkTalk, Sky, etc who force you to have a landline as their broadband must be delivered over the phone wire coming into your property. Although VM doesn't force you to have their landline a lot of deals are cheaper when it's bundled with broadband/TV.

Virgin already has closed circuit VoIP for new customers. The phone plugs into the internet hub, but this only dispenses with the copper twisted pair between the customer & Virgins Local exchange. The price you pay is the same as if you were still using the copper pair.

As a Very Insightful Person, I'm here to share my knowledge. I don't work for Virgin Media.
