Well one of the Radio One DJ's used to have a standing joke each year as to how early he could get away with playing a christmas song, I think he managed the end of August one year...

I remember Johnny Walker, around 1972-1973 catching me out on radio 1.
He kept saying there will be an exclusive interview at 1 o'clock with Gladys Knight.
At 1pm came the apology, "sorry, we couldn't get Gladys Knight but here are the pips" .. pip .. pip ...pip

Movies 24 done the same last year, copying the Hallmark Channel in the US.
As is usual what the Americans do, we usually follow a while later.
