What's going on with email accounts?

I couldn't log in yesterday, but that wasn't unexpected as I have only been able to access my emails once a day for a while.

This morning the log in page is entirely different and I have to set everything up again.  The problem is that the verifications aren't coming through.

Some prior notification would have been useful.  I'm at a loss what to do without the text or email verifications.

    Up to speed

So the OP posted 16hrs ago as of me typing this and NOT A PEEP from VM!

This is utterly CR*P service!!! Or rather zero service whatsoever!

'It's a free email service.... blahh blahh blaah' doesn't cut it either VM!

Are we going to get an answer or what?

It's not exactly free, though, is it?  You can only sign up if you have a Virgin account.

  • Early afternoon following loads of attempts (and failures) I eventually got the new 2FA login to work.  It wasn’t recognising my .ntlworld.com address and then also had several instances of non-receipt of verification codes to my mobile.  I thought all was well, got a few confirmation emails to my .ntlworld.com inbox on the iPad email client.

Fast forward to this evening and just receiving error messages saying incorrect password (which I haven’t changed) and no emails to my .ntlworld.com account.  My .virginmedia account was fine at 6pm, but that too is now showing error messages saying incorrect password.  I can access both accounts through webmail, but not iPad or iPhone.

Can we please have some kind of acknowledgment from Virgin that there is an issue and when it is likely to be resolved?

If you set a new password during the new VMO2ID sign in process then this is only for use with the My VM account and VM webmail.  It does not change you email password for use with email apps on your iPhone or iPad.  This password will be your existing one or an app generated 'four word' password if you have previously set one.  The log in username remains your actual ntlworld.com email address.

        Tuning in

old (pre 'four-word') password stopped working this morning on Windows LiveMail (configured to use POP3) on my PC and on iPad/iPhone Mail app (configured to use IMAP) - managed to swap over to the new (4-word) password on Windows Live Mail and can now send and receive.

BUT same change of password on iPad/iPhone only allows me to send (thru' SMTP) -- to me that means they've still f8cked-up the IMAP settings/server

      Settling in

I rang them last night, there is an issue with an update, I was told it would be resolved within 24 hours, not very helpful if you are a business !! my last email came in at 4.30pm yesterday, none since, hopefully it will be sorted at some point today.

    On our wavelength

It would be helpful if we could get an informed description of the problem from a VM expert, and what we really need to do (if anything !) to have access to our Virgin mail.

I too managed to contact the help desk (abroad) and what little I could understand is the admitted fault will be fixed in 24 hours (that was early on the 14th. July)   I only use a PC, not a smart phone, and the incorrect log-in screen asking for more information and identity conformation that is not for the old V mail log -in from pre O2 days, but seems to be signing you to the linked companies, VM/O2 which surely is a whole new ball game that is not necesssary to most of us that just want the original stand-alone V-mail ?

I can't log onto MY Virginmedia account to check my Bills and other facilities, and for an old geezer pushing 80, .... it's getting stressful.

  • Managed to get Windows Live Mail (Outlook?) on Win10 working with new VMO2_ID  '4-word' password - seem to be able to send and receive.

But with the same settings (https://www.virginmedia.com/help/broadband/manage-email-account) on both iPad and iPhone I can send but NOT receive

      Outlook still won't authenticate

And by the data from downdetector it was thousands of users

I read the "support" link, ..... for that to be any use I need to log in to My virginmedia, which I can't because I'm still getting the wrong sign-in page.  This one .......

I don't want to join the Virgin/O2 system, I just want access to My Virginmedia and my VM e-mail.  I don't want a  two-factor authentication. My usual log-in with password and security pictures was good enough.   Is this all a ploy to get us all onto a different platform ??  The fact that a link to "O2 Privacy Policy" seems to confirm this My Mobile phone is MY business, not VM's

It seems that other customers have tried the new log-in, and had no or mixed success.  Having done so, they are now in the VM/O2 platform that may bring unwanted features and conditions ????

I will wait, hoping that my usual log-in screen appears and functions as it should.

bobec Sorry if this sounds harsh but the old log in process won't be coming back so your only option would be to leave VM and find a different provider.

VM and O2 merged a few years ago so it probably isn't unexpected that they are slowly bringing in combined systems.

If you do go ahead and create a new VMO2 ID you can skip the process to link it to an O2 account and just link your VM account.

  • I have been having this problem since Monday morning, I managed to get through to tech support (had to go via sales as the 150 number is useless) and was told it should be fixed in the next 48 hours, now 4 days in and still cannot log in to my email account. I also cannot log in to My Virginmedia account, would like to know just what is going on.

Soundman, .... ditto to your situation, Methinks this is not going to be reversed to the old log-in.

After reading Grayham_A's post (above) I decided to do as he suggested, .... and I'm now fully back on stream with VM e-mail and My Virgin.

Seems the best way unless you can afford to wait (as I did), and not know if you'll ever get to your VM stuff.

  • ok, so i might be classed as daft for not knowing this but:

no warning, no thought for us and most certainly no common decency!

i have been with VM since it was NTL...TWENTY THREE YEARS!!!

i dont want another email address! i want the one i pay over £100/month for!

i have over 10 years of work receipts etc stored in my email which i now cannot access.

Norton did a clearout on my pc recently and i need to put the passwords in again...

"forgotten password? we will email you a link to reset it"

I CAN'T GET INTO MY EMAILS!!!

if i get another email account for this process you are forcing on us, does it mean my old email address will no longer be the one i hand out to people to contact me on? ive got it on all of my paperwork!!!

what the hell are you doing VM? who decided we need more security? have you never considered a lot of us use our own and not yours?

the email address was the only thing keeping me with you. if im losing that you are losing at least a £1200/year customer thats been with you for 23 years.

I'm a bit miffed Rich, as I gave VM a back up email address at yahoo, 15 years ago, which I had years before joining VM. This was so they could contact me when there were problems, .... and most importantly, verification e-mails to click on.

Simple and free to set up, and I don't know why everyone doesn't have at least 2 mail addresses.

Do that and check that ir sends/receives OK.  The new log in is, it seems the only login for VM/O2 now.   Then follow the instructions on the new log-in page.

The account e-mail is your 23 year old one, that is in blue link form. click on that. to get the new log-in going.

You'll need pen and paper to note  new log in details.  A new password could be your old one with a couple of characters added for extra security.

You'll need to enter your mobile number to receive a security code by text.

There will be a four word code to write down also.  An e-mail will be sent to your new e-mail address for you to click and confirm.

The choice of log-in can be kept to "password" as I did.  (the new one you made up) When finished, Your old VM e-mail will be the same as always, with all your old mails, as it is your account e-mail. And logging on to "My Virginmedia" wil still say, "welcome back Rich" ! So all the same facilities like billing and help are as before.

I found I HAD to link accounts for it to work, ... which it did, first time !

Please note that the above are not necessarily in the order that you will see them.

      Good luck
