If you are currently a VM broadband customer, you may have an option to link the .net email to your broadband account (as long as both are in the same name). You need to liaise with the VM forum team on here to look into that.
If you are not currently a VM broadband customer, VM seems intent on closing down these legacy mailboxes.

Some services will require access to the .net mailbox to confirm a change of email address so you should prioritise those while you still have access to the .net mailbox (most likely services with higher security such as banking etc.)
