email not working. Site says no account. I have had it from blueyonder

Sunday evening I was using my email via Thunderbird on Windows 11 without problem.

I returned later to use it again and I got the message my password was invalid, even though I had been using it earlier.

I then went to check via web mail as I had outstanding arrangements to confirm.

VM told me either I didn't have an account (I have one for decades before it was VM) or that my account was locked.

The supposed solution is to register again with a new password, which is a totally stupid suggestion as if I can acess my emails how can I confirm it is me wanting to set up an account.

Another page suggested I register via a non VM email.

All of which is totally unprofessional and NOT user friendly.

VM systems have failed.

They should sort it out.

No offer of help via the website.

Not saying I should be a priority but to lose my account after decades of being with them it just so a complete nonsense.

I suppose I am now going to have to spend hours on the phone, when I dont have time to do this.

No doubt speaking to an "expert" who only knows how to read questions of a pre-prepared crib sheet and will not have the first idea of how to resolve this.

Wouldn't it be great to find out tomorrow morning that someone at VM actually cares enough about their standard of work and support for paying customers that they will have checked whatever blunder they made and put it right without being prompted to do it.

It didn't just disappear by magic.

Someone made an error which has lost me access to an account I have had for decades.

And the Government thinks IT will make the NHS more efficient. Not based on this level of technical competence.

Have had a message saying someone had had a similar problem and eventually resolved it. See

    https://community.virginmedia.com/discussions/VirginMediaApp/cannot-log-in-to-myvm-or-email/5607305

     I hope this link works.

If this is the solution, it is another example of VM being the most anti customer company ever. Why would you do this and not post alerts and if necessary reminders.

How can anyone think they can just cut off a service that for most of us is essential every day.

And in fact in my situation am not even sure it is the problem, as my problem was not being able to fetch my emails to my email account as it says my password is wrong.

But thanks to the user who sent the link.

Although if I think lose my email address it means all the basic contacts I need as part of my daily life are lost, because even if I wanted to change an email address services need to send a message to the existing account to verify someone isn't trying to hijack an account.

Well done VM for proving that relying on tech to be the solution to our lives is a huge gample as the people running these services have no idea about public interface.

Just as no support response from any one at VM to my problem.

Have just seen this notice, from 2014(?!) which says if you dont access your Virgin Media Mail every 90 days they will suspend access.

Well I have had an account for decades, and in some years I haven't accessed the online service for a year, and then will do an end of year clean out.

Not sure if this is still true - but if it is surely as a tech firm they know how to send out reminders, even if only once a year.

But if this is the reason, again another example of how VM doesn't have the slightest idea how to run a service that enable customers, instead of punishing them.

    The notice finishes:

Don’t worry. If you’d like to reactivate your mailbox during this time, you can call our team on 0800 519 6986.

Judging by other post on this email users thread, this doesn't seem to happen either.

What sort of provider punishes customers who have remained loyal.

If I didn't have this VM address as the key to so many services I would just walk away.

I wonder if there is any legal route to get compensation for this cancellation of a service I pay for. Especially given that in this day and age many of us whether we like it or not have to interact on line with essential contacts and support. ie at the moment I am cut of off from:

    • 3 different hospital trusts
    • gp
    • bank
    • rates department
    • landord
    • online shopping confirmation and deliveries
    • friends who needed a reply by today
    • and so much more

If as the really stupid statement on VM's "help" (do they know what that word means) is because of a possible security breach why didn't they contact me, instead of just pulling the plug. My bank which isn't a tech firm, took the initiative before cancelling by card to contact me to say they thought there was a problem.

VM shouldn't be offering a service they aren't able to operate professionally.

At the very least if a techie person thought there was a problem they should have consulted with a consumer advocate as to the best step to take.

Just shutting down my account in not only unprofessional but damaging to someone who like most are forced to maintain contact by email.
