Can't send emails from ntlworld address with Gmail

I use Gmail to send and receive emails through my ntlworld account.  I can receive emails today but any I send are just sat in my outbox. I have changed nothing in my settings. Can anyone help?

    Tracy13 " Can anyone help?"

Well, I've just tested this with my email accounts.

I sent  two test emails from a couple of my Ntlworld email accounts using the browser version of my Gmail account. Both emails were sent and received without any problems.

If you are still unable to send Ntlworld emails my tests today suggest the problem is with your Ntlworld account rather than the VM server.

If i were in your position my first step would be to generate a new VM mail app password and then update the password in the settings of the Ntlworld account in Gmail.

    • Sign into the My Virgin Media account for the Ntlworld email concerned with your VMO2ID for that Ntlworld account.
    • Select Account Settings
    • Select Identity & Security Settings
    • Select Manage your products
    • Select Manage email app password
    • Click on the blue button 'Get New Password'

Make a note of the generated password.  This is what you should then be using in the Gmail settings of your Ntlworld account.  Update Gmail and see how that goes.

      Hi

I have tried this. When putting the new password into Gmail it just says could not connect to server.

Can you access the Ntlworld email account via the VM webmail service on the VM website?

You can access that via the "Virgin Media Mail" link in the "Quick links" section of  the Virgin Media Account that you accessed to generate a new email app password.

If you can, then it would be worth generating a another new email app password. It seems that it does sometimes need more that one password reset to unlock a VM email account.  When you update the the password in Gmail check that it says:

        • using: secured connection on port 465 using SSL
        • smtp.virginmedia.com
        • and port 465

Those are the correct SMTP settings for Ntlworld accounts.

If that after all that it still does not work then you can wait until a member of the Forum Team (VM staff) picks up this thread - they are best placed to help you.
