Disappointing Start - Buffering

I joined Virgin in December and it has not got off to a good start. Despite having over 1Gb data transfer certain sites and pages continually buffer something I have not experienced on my 60Mb BT network. During the course of my investigation I found that whilst my wifi is using the 192.168.0.0/24 dhcp range the ethernet is using 192.168.1.0/24 little wonder I am having problems. On the advice of another contributor I did a pin reset and this returned the ethernet to 192.168.0.0/24. Unfortunately today it has reverted to 192.168.1.0/24 I have tried to contact support but the link freezes. See attached. I don't particularly want to go down the telephone route as I am hearing impaired. Any advice would be appreciated.

It really does give the impression the BT Hub and the VM Router are interconnected, either directly by a network cable or via a network switch or via Powerline Adaptors or similar.

Does your computer have a DHCP disabled & a static IP set
with the Gateway defined as 192.168.1.254 for its network adaptor ?

If not, what IPs are defined for the DNS ?

No the address assignment was by DHCP. DNS had the addition of 8.8.8.8 in addition to default gateway. Anyway, I have bitten the bullet and decommissioned the BT hub. Will be checking on address assignments tomorrow. Hopefully the buffering will cease then.

I'm not a fan of repurposing an old BT Hub really, from memory they are too locked down.  Personally, I'd recommend dumping the BT Hub and getting a purpose Access Point, either ac or ax protocol depending on the age of the IoT that relies on the Wifi.

Using a browser, visit the Router web admin page at 192.168.1.254 what device responds ?

Your laptop is getting a lease from your other router.  Switch it off and reboot the laptop . What does that do?

192.168.1.254 is usually the IP of a Router from BT / Plusnet / TalkTalk etc.

Do you still have one of these active in your home ?

So yes, you do have some BT, etc router running on your home network, yes?

If so, kill it. Something is dishing out ‘wrong’ IP addresses, nd almost certainly that old legacy equipment is the cause.

Ethernet or WiFi is irrelevant here.
