"I have no idea what my original network name and password are, so haven't dared do this."
Check for these details on a sticker on the bottom side of the VM Hub.
As you may be realising repeated restarts / reset of the VM Hub are not fixing anything & are best avoided.
Check the Upstream / Downstream status tabs of the VM Hub for signal level and error issues.
If this is a Wi-Fi only issues ( we don't know that )
1) Disable Smart Wi-Fi aka Wireless Channel Optimization
2) Change from Auto Channel selection to manual using Channel 1 or 6 or 11 only on the 2.4GHz band
3) Try 36 or 44 on the 5Ghz band.
VM Hubs can be slow to change channels and this results in random loss of the Wi-Fi signal.
