Your Virgin Media TV box needs an upgrade

The key part to that statement on the email I have received today is needs.

Apart from all the great things I would lose if I converted to 360 I have 2 very full boxes which I would lose all my recordings. That has been my main reason why I have not converted before now.

I have read the email carefully and it obviously sells it as being a great move if we converted but I see no mention of say a date I have to do this by as if we are being forced into it or anything. As it stands I am not going to 'upgrade' but the needs wording has me slightly concerned

Has anyone seen anything on here or otherwise to if we are going to be forced to 360 anytime soon?

  • Do not switch to 360 if you value your sanity. Dreadful experience for me so far. Hate it

    On our wavelength

How can you find out what is different between my current v6 box and the 360 upgrade? Can you still get the channel guide and record a program from there? Which is basically all I do

Probably a bit late now but some of the missing features are as follows; Quickplay (play 10% faster with audio), Wishlists (where you can set the box to record programs on certain subjects or featuring certain people), undelete, series link+, suggestions, setting of series links for programs not in the current TV guide, ethernet control, keyboard support via USB, turning off the mini-preview screen while browsing menus, switching between tuners with constant buffering, skip-back on fast-forward, default recording options, cancelling individual recordings from a series link, multi-channel series links, radio channels allowing recording of radio, separation of recordings between boxes, watching recordings when internet is not available and probably a few others I've forgotten.

Also, extra boxes do not have their own hard disks or tuners (unless converted from a V6 box), so you lose storage space and recording ability and are also reliant on the main box being on to watch and set recordings and also on having a decent wi-fi signal (or ethernet cable) between the two boxes when watching recordings. If the boxes are used by independent family members i.e. older children living at home, then there is also the issue of recordings being pooled across all boxes, so everyone's recordings are mixed up, rather than being separated. This also means that if there is a show that both people watch and one person watches and deletes it then it is gone for the other person as well, and can't be recovered due to the lack of undelete.

TV360 has a channel guide and allows recording from that.

There are substantial differences with series links and how recordings are managed, but in very crude & simple terms, the answer to your question is "yes you can get a guide and record programmes"

  • Also the upgrade from the TiVo software to the 360 software on a V6 box is a one-way trip. You can't go back to TiVo once you've gone over to 360

  • Hi BinghamBloke ๐Ÿ‘‹ Thanks for posting!
Sorry to hear these concerns about an email you received from us encouraging an upgrade to TV360. As the community have already correctly advised, it's not a mandatory upgrade!

It's also correct that when you change or upgrade your box you loose any stored recordings.

Please let us know if there's anything further you need our support with and we will do our best to help. All the best. ๐ŸŒž

You're correct to believe that a migration from TiVo/V6 > TV 360 is a complete change of TV box operating system, and conversions are completely voluntary.

VM staff on this forum have confirmed that V6 will remain supported for some time to come yet, and no conversions will be forced.

Yes itโ€™s optional.  VM would like all TiVo and V6โ€™s away as it costs money to licence the software for TiVo.  The 360 uses Horizon software and is completely different.

  • Yeah I think it is worded to make it sound like a mandatory upgrade but I do not think anything has changed - it is entirely optional
