Relocating TV to a different room from Virgin Box?

All,

As subject, I want to move my TV to a different room, but keep my Virgin Boxes (Broadband and TV) in the same place.

Is there any way to get the Virgin TV Box to "cast" to the TV in the other room?

If not, then the only other thing I can think of is to get an extra long HDMI Cable and route this from the TV Box in one room to the TV in the other. Does anyone have any experience of doing this?

Alternatively, does anyone have any other suggestions?

  • You can get wireless HDMI transmitters, but they can be a bit pricey, so a long HDMI cable is probably your best bet. There isn't any way to cast directly from the the box using Wi-Fi or similar.

If you can "get extra long HDMI Cable and route this from the TV Box in one room to the TV in the other" you can get a coaxial cable instead for the TV box. VM will do it for £25.

Roger_Gooner - But wouldn't that mean moving my TV Box (and Router?) into the other room as well?

Hi CraigHealdpoint 👋 welcome back to the community!

Thanks for getting in touch to let us know about your TV box routing. Is there a specific reason you want to keep the TV box in a different room to the TV itself? You may be better off relocating the TV box to another room too. We can do this by booking in an appointment to ensure you have an extension of Coax cable running to where the TV & TV box will be. (You can also connect the TV box via Wi-Fi rather than ethernet if needed.)

I will send you a PM to offer some support in getting an appointment booked in to do this if needed. You can find the PM in your Inbox ✉ in the top right corner of the page. We can then return to this public thread with another update when possible. Thanks for your patience in the meantime! 🌞

  • Thanks to Tavis75 and nodrogd for your helpful responses - I will have a look at the options - long HDMI cable or wireless HDMI transmitter.

The only thing to watch out for with HDMI senders is the content protection (HDCP), With V360, make sure any kit you buy is HDCP 2.2 compliant, or the box will not recognise the kit on the other end as a TV & will block the video signal.
