TV360

Hi, new to Virgin Media and don't understand the setups after talking to external install engineer.

I ordered a broadband and TV bigger bundle which when I was going through the packages about recording TV it stated the TV360 did it. Today I was told I was getting a Stream box which by the looks of things is purely that and has no recording facility. I'm leaving sky so recording is a must but the engineer who came to install the external cable said that TV360 is not compatible with the fibre system in our area. Is this just a bluff as reading previous posts Virgin has just stopped sending out TV360 boxes. I got through the Bot chats and they said they'd give me the TV360 box so I don't know what's going on. I mentioned in the chat that the engineer said TV360 was compatible in our area and they said ok we'll cancel the contract?

Any ideas please, gratefully received as not the best start if it ever gets underway.

  • Hello RichardH11,

Welcome to the Community and thanks for taking the time to post here on the forums. If the engineer has advised that the TV 360 box isn't compatible in your area then we wouldn't be able to install any TV 360 boxes as part of your services. I can see that you've spoken to the team since you last posted and they have helped further to look into this.

    Kind Regards,

In the newer XGS-PON fibre areas, then it's correct to say VM only offer the Stream platform with no recording facilities.

In the traditional HFC areas, both Stream & TV360 are available, but Stream is the default since a month or so. TV360 is only now available reactively on request via CS, and at £50 cost.

From the sounds of it, the "fibre system" likely means you're in an XGS-PON area. If the online chat bot had taken your postcode, checked, and still came back offering TV360, then that's another for the "whoops" collection.

VM now operates two network distribution types. New areas where NexFibre are installing FTTP network to carry VM services, and Virgin’s legacy cable areas which are HFC delivered to the customer via a copper coaxial cable. These copper networks carry broadcast TV in the same way you get it from a dish, so recording boxes can be used (the equivalent of SkyQ). In the FTTP areas only Stream boxes work, as these use IP delivered TV channels (in the same way as Sky Stream).

VMs Stream box is now the default box in both types of area. But you can opt for the V360 box at extra cost if the copper network runs past your door.

Take a look at the linked map & zoom in to your area. If the area has a load of red or brown or dark blue dots, you can have V360. If it’s light blue, no chance.

You can have a 360 only in the red and blue areas as the red/brown and Pacific blue areas are XGS-PON.

I'm in a Brown area & V360 is still available in all the postcodes in our town. I assume if you wanted 2Gig symmetrical though, it would be a different outcome.
