Not v smooth....

Made the decision to move to 360 from TiVo (having been a TiVo customer since the Thomson Scenium boxes first came to the UK - I will miss it, but it's clear VM are going to kill it off eventually so...) - and I liked the idea of the box being updatable so I didn't have to rewire everything....

Used the TiVo V6 app to order the remote, which arrived - and then...not a lot.  No "Install now" option, so spoke to VM customer services via webchat - who "did something" and said wait an hour.

After an hour, nothing - so restarted the box - which then lost all interactive comms - I could watch all my channels/see the guide - but pause/FF/RW/Record etc not working, no on demand, all "Apps" menu items greyed out - even "Help" was greyed out.  The front screen advised me to call "UNKNOWN" (the TiVo System Info screen actually gave me the 150 and 0345 numbers).  Two separate error codes showing on the interactive screens.

Spoke to VM yesterday who "couldn't see the box online" and an engineer is coming out today to look at and/or replace the box.  So we'll see how this goes, but so far, "not smooth"...

  • Well, engineer has been - and box swapped, and now "things are working".
Barring the inevitable "argh, new UI" joy - the only immediate/obvious gripe(s) are:

    1) Changing to any service that stops LiveTV playing and going back to TV loses the buffer.  That can't be hard to resolve, and should be something to sort.

    2) Hitting "Watch from Start" did work for me on a test programme, however I couldn't then FF back to where I wanted to be as a test.  No controls worked (not even pause).

    3) Box still has 6 tuners, but I can't access them individually (which was handy before).

    4) The Netflix login process was hideously slow - remote/screen update processing was atrocious - but it's now signed in (as are the other apps).  Disney+ sign in also wasn't via QRCode (Channel 4/5 and iPlayer all used QR or screen codes)

    5) Dedicated buttons for "My Shows/Recordings" and Subtitles would be useful to save clicks.  I suspect if I opted to keep the old remote (that was an option) I'd still have those, but not voice search.

    6) Sky Movies "On Demand" has been buried under "Movies" and then scrolling a bit.  Took me a while to find the categories, but they are there.

Will see how long it is before the other residents comment!

Horizon V360 is Liberty Global's server based TV platform. It is designed for cloud recording (which is not allowed yet in the UK), so your Hard Disk is managed as the cloud location. If you stop viewing, it stops buffering. This is something that will not change.

      2) Hitting "Watch from Start" did work for me on a test programme, however I couldn't then FF back to where I wanted to be as a test.  No controls worked (not even pause).

The broadcaster has to support the option (eg. The BBC uses the iPlayer).

You will only use the 6 tuners if you are recording 6 programmes. The tuners are managed by the Horizon server. It will only buffer the channel you are watching.

If you wanted to keep the old remote you would still be on V6 not 360, the TiVo remote doesn't work with a 360 box.

All the indications are that conversions from TiVo/V6 > TV360 will remain voluntary. Clearly no new apps or features will be added to TiVo/V6, but existing ones will remain fully supported - and arguably, the box is very mature already.

Thus it's only new streaming apps such as Disney+, Paramount & DAZN that will be missed out.

More than likely your account has been changed before the box updated. Some older V6 boxes just don’t handle the migration process very well.

V360 Horizon, as you will find, is a completely different TV platform to TiVO, with quite a few patented features missing.
