If you use modem mode you can buy a dual wan router that will use two connections for redundancy. Some models can even use three or four connections.

I use the Virgin Hub in modem mode connected to an Asus RT-AX86U Router. So what you are saying is that I could connect a 4G router to the 2.5G connection on the AX86U and run it as a WAN connection?
Would the switch from the virgin HUB to the 2nd WAN connection be automated and instant with the Asus Router? if the Virgn connection dropped?

I have the same router and yes, it has a dual WAN mode.
You can use any of the ethernet ports as a second WAN.
Here is my setup (Second connection is a 4G router):
You can set the detection of an outage and configure to switch over within 5 - 10 seconds.

I have just been playing with the router and found that you can use a mobile phone USB tethered to the router's USB port as the 2nd WAN connection. The router will use the phone's 4G internet connection, that sounds like a good solution.
