We’ve been made aware that some people are receiving fake emails that claim to be from Virgin Media. These fraudulent emails often contain links which are designed to prompt you into disclosing personal or private information. This is known as phishing – a method used by fraudsters in an attempt to access valuable details, such as usernames and passwords.

Phishing emails will often look genuine, so it’s really important that you follow the advice from Action Fraud and are cautious about clicking on links after opening an email message. Virgin Media will never ask you for private or personal details via email. If there is a genuine problem with your account, we’ll make contact via letter or telephone. You may occasionally receive security alerts from us via SMS or email, but we’ll never ask for your information in these alerts.

What can I do if I receive a phishing email?

Remember, we’ll never ask you for private or personal details via email. If you suspect an email isn’t genuine, please don’t click on any of the links.

Here’s what you should do with the email:

  • Forward the suspicious email to our dedicated mailbox – phishing@virginmedia.com
  • Mark the email as spam and delete it after you’ve sent it to us

If you have any concerns about phishing emails or want to find out more, we publish regular updates about known phishing scams in our Security Matters board. To find more information you should look for threads titled Latest Phishing News.

As well as the recent blizzard of fake McAfee and bitcoin phishing emails, I am now receiving regular ' free gift' emails purporting to be from Virgin, Asda, Lidl, and similar organisations. The email addresses are random, but from the same domain 'newstim.it' . The source code contains a number of other identifiers such as 'egov.ba.it' , the name 'richardgoodman' and even the (presumably spoofed) address 'bbc.co.uk'. I have tried a wide variety of combinations in the email filter settings with no success. Has anyone managed to block them successfully? Thanks.
