Hi,
Some routers, including the ones that Virgin Media provide, have the SSID (wireless network name) and the password aka encryption key, on a label on the bottom of the router.
Take a look there and let us know how you get on.
If there isn't that info there, let us know the make and model of the router.
Peter

if its a virgin netgear wireless g router (white)
the ssid is virginbroadband an the default key is preinstall
if you have forgotten your wireless key you can reset the router by pin hole on the back.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for replying, Yes it is a Virgin netgear router. I did make a note of everything it asked me to when I set up the wireless router, which was the pc name, encryption type, password and name of router. When it wouldn't accept the one I wrote down then I tried the password and a few other possibilities. I will try and reset button and let you know.
Thanks again
Deb

Hi Peter, I did try this and it still didn't accept it. I will keep trying and let you know how I get on.
Thanks

Hi,
two points at this stage:
- The "reset button" does various things according to how you use it, there is a "soft reset" and a "hard reset" as described at Defining Terms: Power Cycle, Boot, Reboot, Restart, Reset, and Hard Reset it isn't a simple "cure all" as the post above suggests.
- Things can go wrong if you do a "hard reset", I have a non-Virgin Media Netgear router that became completely trashed when I tried to do a hard reset on it. I have no idea why.
What you need to do is a hard reset which I believe should get the router back to the default settings on the bottom of the case. I have never done this on a VM supplied router though. The instructions are at this link
Please only do this if you feel confident to do it!!

Hi,
I managed to solve the problem by looking at it a different way. I went through the Virgin wireless manager and found the section on adding other computers to the network. I put in the password that I had created and it worked a treat. Thank you for your help and suggestion.
