Wireless connection problems

I have a recently installed a dlink wireless router in my house and every other laptop can connect but mine. I have a Sony Vaio that runs on windows 7, I dont know what the problem is. My laptop is telling me I have internet connection but when I open internet explorer or firefox I get a message saying "internet explorer cannot display this webpage". Ive connected to other wireless networks that arent virgin and all is well.

Can anyone tell me what my problem is? and how i can fix it. I need wireless to work and i'm sick of being attatched by the cable to our modem.

HELP!!

Re: Wireless connection problems

Hi jayneypie

The fact that you have stated that other laptops are working would point specifically to the laptop as the issue. Can you please confirm that you are getting an IP address in the range of 192.168.0.xx. If you are could you please run a ping test to the following IP addresses 192.168.01 and 192.168.100.1. If these are successful could you then try a ping test to a website URL and IP and post your results here.

Re: Wireless connection problems

hiya jayneypie

hope on not treading on anybodys toes

Firstly click the Start button (known as ‘the Orb’ in Vista and Windows 7), then click Run and type CMD (Vista and Windows 7 users type CMD in the Search field) and press Enter.  You should now see a black window on the screen, in here type ping 192.168.100.1  and press Enter. when thats complete can you also do ping www.bbc.co.uk  Once this has finished you will need to copy the information.  To do this Right Click inside the black window (which should display a small menu) and then left click on Select All.  This should turn the contents white, if it has press Enter which will copy the content.  You should now be able to paste this into your post.
