Re: Wireless connection problems

hiya pinklady52

when you ran those ping tests is this with the dlink attached? does the globe light change to orange when you lose connection?  also have you tried using the dlink with any other machine eg PC or laptop? just to rule out your laptop.

Re: Wireless connection problems

Hi pinklady52

Is your main computer much closer to the router than your other two?  If so you may need to change the channel your router is broadcasting on in case someone close by is using the same channel.  To do this open your browser and type 192.168.0.1 into the address bar and press Enter.  Now enter your Router username and password (if you have not changed it the username should be admin and the password leave blank).

Once logged in click Wireless Setup followed by Manual Wireless Connection Setup, remove the tick from Enable Auto Channel Selection (if ticked) and then change the Wireless Channel to 1 6 or 11 then click Save Settings at the bottom of the page.

If this does not resolve your issue please let us know.

Regards,

Lee Grant

Re: Wireless connection problems

I am having a connection problem not dissimilar.

Using a Belkin USB woreless adapter to connect in an upstairs bedroom. Worked fine (9 months) and all other PC's work fine then last week this one stopped being able to maintain a connection to the internet. It can initially connect, acquires a valid IP but no internet, or occasionally gets internet for a few mins then fails.

Checked local wireless signals and found 6 signals with 1, 6 & 11 all in use - pretty sure there were only 2 other signals 9 months ago. Tried 8 & 13 (those with weakest 'opposition') signals. Checked connection settings to ensure not actively seeking alternate signals. Switched off encryption for a short time but nothing helped. Move the same PC downstairs and it works fine. The upstairs bedroom is 20-30 feet from the router!

I conclude that this PC is struggling to 'choose' between signals. One solution is to use an N router, replace adapters. Not practical to wire this PC to the router! I note that all new Virgin customers get the N router (something I was promised by the sales rep when I subscribed in Oct 2009 but I never had delivered) - is there any possibility I could have one??

Thanks
