Wireless PC to TV.... How to?

Hi I'm a bit new to this sort of thing:

I have:
windows 7 64 bit
Toshiba 50" HDTV
Virgin Media Netgear Wireless N Cable Gateway

How do I connect these both together wirelessly and what do I need.

I have the HDTV cable but its not long enough and I don't want wires all around my house so thought this was the best option.

I need it for my photography & videos

Any help would be appreciated, please can you keep the jargon down so I can follow :smileylol:

Regards

Marie

i think the bestway is powerline you can  get either wireless or wired variants but your tv would need a wireless adapter if it isnt wifi enabled and i have no idea how to get wireless adapaters for tvs

so best option would be a wired powerline set up which means some wires but not all round your house

if you go to virgin media.com tab above and go into the pc and then home networking theres a few powerline adapters that virgin recomends but you can go on ebay and get them cheaper but your home wiring needs to be decent condition  for decent speeds thats the only option i can think of for not running wires all over your house  hope this helps :smileyhappy:  its also recomended you plug powerline directly into a wall socket and not an adapter for the best speeds

Hi Marie

When you say you want to connect the PC wirelessly to the TV - is that to view the PC on your TV screen or simply to access the network resources?

I ask as you mentioned having the HDTV cable in your post.

Re: Wireless PC to TV.... How to?

I want it to view my pc screen so I can watch videos I make and show photo and stuff like that... suppose it would be like another monitor.... I want to be able to access my pc files etc... hope that makes sense.

sorry I meant to say HDMI cable not HDTV cable... but the HDMI is too short to run from pc to tv :smileysurprised:

You can't just plug a wireless USB or wired ethernet adapter into any HDTV. It needs to be an Internet-Ready TV.

What is an Internet-Ready TV:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?ie=UTF8&docId=1000535931

You can forget about this option if the TV is not an Internet-ready HDTV. You'd need an extra box to provide internet access that you then plug into your HDMI port. There are many available like Roku or Apple TV:

Even if it was Internet-Ready or you use a box like the Roku that still wouldn't get the laptop display onto the TV screen. He could upload the pictures to a site or a flash drive, browse web sites and pictures from the TV and stream movies from Netflix but where is his laptop screen on the web? This isn't exactly what the OP asked for.

How to do wireless display from your laptop:

1. WiDi

If your laptop has Intel WiDi built-in:

NetGear Push2TV.

2. WiFi Direct

3. Wireless USB

Veebeam

4. Wireless HD Kit. HDMI transmitter/receiver.

Usually quite expensive, more professional end of the market. See amazon.

Look on your Tv and Laptop to see if it has badges like DLNA, WiDi, WiFi Direct, Internet-Ready etc.

What model is your TV and what model is your computer? That might help.
