Superhub now allowing me to open ports for my web server

Hi guys. I would really appreciate your help in resolving a problem I’m having with my Superhub.

I’ve set up a web server on my LAN and wish to have it visible via the internet. I’ve always been able to do prior to the Superhub without any problems but for some reason it’s just not working. Here’s what I’ve tried:

-       I’ve gone into the port forwarding section and directed traffic for port 80 to the machine IP address which I’m running IIS.

-       I’ve turned off my firewall on my machine and the firewall on the Superhub.

-       I’ve also tried opening other ports on my Superhub and used various port forwarding testing websites to see if they’re open, but they’re all closed.

-       Switched to modem mode and tried two other routers and they don’t work either. Both routers allowed me to port forward to a web server before I was upgraded to the Superhub.

-       I’ve been able to turn on the super hub remote access on port 8080 and tested it using the same port forwarding sites, and it shows as open. So that works.

Have anyone else been able to successfully open ports on the Superhub in order to use a web server? Do VM block particular ports from being opened up?

I’ve not tried calling VM yet as I really don’t think it’s something they will be able to help me with. I may be surprised, but reading other threads the general perception is that it’s a waste of time and money and those that know the answers are on this forum. So... please help me! :-)

I forgot to mention that I've also added the web server's ip address to the DMZ.

Your web server is not setup correctly or your firewall that your hosting from is blocking it.

Connect your web server to the huh in modem mode without a router to confirm your web server is not setup correctly or is blocked by your firewall.

You can also do a port scan here.
https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
and use a Port Listener on another PC to test an open port.

From low to high of Super Hub all I wanted was a modem not the VMDG280 (which back then is only what I would have gotten).
The more that use modem mode the more we need IPv6: Pingtest, 20Mb BB M, BQM, Gateway On/Off show, Outgoing ports test

Re: Superhub now allowing me to open ports for my web server

You were right. It was a firewall issue on my web server that was causing the issue.

I thought turning the firewall off completely would be enough to troubleshoot but it didn't seem to be the case.

I followed this :

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2184013/viewing-my-iis-hosted-site-on-other-machines-on-my-networ...

and it resolved it for me.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Superhub not allowing me to open ports for my web server

I am having similar problems - and I am also having trouble in understanding what's happening.

Inside my network I have some PCs, a Windows home server, a web server, a couple of bits of equipment with web interfaces and a couple of cameras.

Before 'upgrading' to the superhub I could get in (from say my office PC) to all of them without problems. Each device had it's own port number and the router just forwarded on to the correct internal IP address.

Now that I have upgraded, pretty much nothing works. The PCs can get out to the internet OK but I can't get in from outside.

This thread suggests that it's a firewall issue - but I don't see how that can be as it all used to work before superhub.

I have tried both modem mode and router mode and all other router and equipment settings remain the same

Re: Superhub not allowing me to open ports for my web server

Hi,

I setup my superhub yesterday and I've had some problems getting port forwarding working as well.

I had set the "Firewall Protection" to high because I'm a security concious kind of person. I found that I couldn't ssh to my home system. I changed it to medium, still ssh doesn't work. I finally set it back to default (i.e.: low) and at that point, all my port forwarding settings (http, https, smtp, ssh) suddenly sprang to life.

Perhaps this is your problem.

It would be nice if VM defined what the different firewall settings meant on the superhub... Low/Medium/High is lacking in detail.

Cheers,

Gary

Re: Superhub not allowing me to open ports for my web server

I don't think this is EXACTLY my problem as I have turned the firewall off (my router has NAT and SPI) so I don't need any other firewall. I have also tried turning the Modem mode on so supposedly there is no routing but neither of these work properly.

I'm going to have another go at things this weekend so may have more info after that.
