Internet keeps dropping with MAC

My internet keeps dropping even though the wireless appears to still be connected. This happens about every 90 seconds and the only solution is turn off my wifi and then turn it back on again. I am using a macbook. I had been using the same connection last week and did not have any problem.

What tests can I run to identify the problem?

Re: Internet keeps dropping with MAC

well best idea would be try and alter the wireless channel to do start this download this - http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider (free wifi program but not supported by virgin media)

Mac machine http://airradar.en.softonic.com/mac

install it run it will show all the wireless channels from any other wireless routers in your area, look for a channel from 1 to 13 not being used, or under used. open your internet explorer type in the addresss bar http://192.168.0.1 press enter

Username: admin

password: changme

click on advanced settings (if using a superhub)

also lower the mode from 300 to 145 can also help with connection/speed

click on wireless setup left hand side, then manual wireless wirless setup where it has auto channel selection untick and choose the wireless channel. press on save settings. also make sure the hub is the open air, as high as you can make it not next to any other electronic devices like especially TV, cordless phone, baby monitors etc.

Re: Internet keeps dropping with MAC

Thank you for these suggestions but the problem has not resolved. I can connect through a wired connection and all other wireless devices are connecting fine. I should add that I am only experiencing difficulties with my home wireless connection so I think it must be some sort of conflict between my Mac and my virgin setup.

Any suggestions?

when you say " I can connect through a wired connection and all other wireless devices are connecting fine." is this with your wireless connection or when your outside?

have you done all the updates on your mac?

Re: Internet keeps dropping with MAC

The wireless connection is working fine for everything except for my mac. My flatmate's PC is working normally. Yes everything is up to date

Re: Internet keeps dropping with MAC

Hello, I am having exactly the same problem. No other wireless networks in my area so not a channel problem. All fine until a few days ago and now the connection drops every few minutes. (Occasionally it works fine, but mostly not.) Happens on my boyfriend's mac too. I'm running Lion; he's on the one before Snow Leopard. (Leopard??) So unlikely to be a mac software update problem since he hasn't done a software update for aeons. Really annoying -- cannot watch live video streaming at all and constantly having to go through network diagnostics to fix.

Re: Internet keeps dropping with MAC

Hi dk8938,

What channel are you currently using at the moment on your hub? The reason I ask is because from what I can gather, channel 13 will not work on a mac. You could also try deleting the wireless profile from your mac then reconnecting? As its not working only on your mac but is for other wireless devices, it can't be the hub that is causing an issue.

Kind Regards,

Oliver C

Re: Internet keeps dropping with MAC

Actually it can be an issue with the wireless technology used within the hub may not be 100% compatible with Mac hardware.
