How to Set up a Network Bridge Using the Super Hub?

Hi

I have the superhub in room A where the broadband enters the house, It is wired to my pc and provides wifi round the house. I would like to use my old router to receive these wifi signals in room B where my internet ready TV and internet ready satelite receiver are located and wire both to the old router. Make sense!?

I am led to beleve this is called a wireles bridge, can the super hub do this and how do i go about setting it up?

I have tried searching but cannot find anything specific to the superhub.

(old router Belkin wireless g model F5D7230-4)

I can set up a basic wireless network but this is out of my current knowledge so reasonable detail is really appreciated!!!

Virgin has been extremely restrictive in their firmware on the Super Hub and as such you cannot set up a wireless bridge between the two routers (unless you can find an unlocked generic NETGEAR firmware, or Virgin release a firmware which has this feature enabled). Personally I would not bother as the wireless functionality of the Super Hub is terrible at the best of times.

Off the top of my head, you still have 2 options:

1. Run an ethernet cable from any port on Super Hub to the WAN port on the  Belkin wireless router. Set up your belkin wireless router as if it is your main connection, you don't need to do anything special and you dont need to use the same SSID and security. You can then use both a wired and wireless connection on the Belkin as the internet is received on the WAN port.

2. If your Belkin router supports it, flash DD-WRT to it and then use the Wireless Client Bridge mode. This basically makes the Belkin become a "client" (it looks and acts like another device such as a PC or Laptop on the network). You can then use both a wired and wireless connection. If using wireless from the Belkin then you need to keep in mind that you will lose half your speed (half of the bandwidth is used for sending/receiving data to/from the Super Hub, the other half is used for sending/receiving data to/from your other connected devices). You won't lose half your speed if connecting via ethernet to the Belkin, but you'll obviously not get the full amount compared to being directly connected via ethernet to the Super Hub. [Research Bandwidth/Throughput/Half Duplex to understand what I mean]

The F5D7230 comes in several variants. If it is any of the following revisions (check the sticker on the bottom) then it is compatible with DD-WRT: v1000fr, v1444, v2000df, v1000, v1010, v1111, v1112, v1222de, v1223df, v122, v200, v2000de, v300, v1001.

If it is the v6000, v6002, v6000tc, v7000, v8000, v9000 or vA000 then you will not be able to use DD-WRT. See here for more info: http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database

I had a good look at option 2 but (sods Law!!) i could not quite work out if mine will work - I have F5D7230-4 VERSION 2001uk which doesnt show up on the database i then tried the FCC ID K7SF5D7234A which produced a link to this page http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices#Belkin and a specific type with a further link to this page http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Installation#Belkin_F5D7230-4_v2000_and_v2000de.

Having read it i'm still not sure if i can change the firmware and if i can whether it will act how i need to (receive wireless from superhub whilst being connected to tv and satelite via cable.

I know its cheeky but you clearly understand this a touch more than i do - could you take a look see what you think?

Can you post a picture of the bottom of the router or let me know its FCC ID (itlll be written on a sticker somewhere).

I'll make you a private build that you can flash to get full wireless client bridge support.

the FCC ID is K7SF5D7234A

and

The model and version is F5D7230-4 VERSION 2001uk

I'm not with the router at the moment so if you still need a pic i can sort it out tomorrow
