'Google Chrome could not find'.. website connection problem

I've been trying to connect to the parkrun website today but keep getting the error message

'Google Chrome could not find www.parkrun.org.uk'

I've tried opening the page with Internet Explorer but get the message 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage'

All other sites I've tried so far are working fine. The website can't be down as I've asked friends if they can connect and they're not having any problems.

I've tried rebooting and clearing the cache. Anyone know what's causing this? Hope someone can help :smileyhappy:

That's weird. Still not working here (Leicester).

I just did a ping test - this was the message: Ping request could not find host www.parkrun.org.uk. Please check the name and try again.

[ Edited ]

Working for me too.  Virgin Connection in the West Midlands

Can you try using nslookup www.parkrun.org.uk

Copy and paste the result from the cmd window, advice on doing this can be found here (note that while the article was originally for XP it applies to later versions of Windows also).

follow this with nslookup www.parkrun.org.uk 8.8.8.8

Re: 'Google Chrome could not find'.. website connection problem

Thanks for the reply, this is what's happened following the nslookup:

C:\Users\Vickie>nslookup www.parkrun.org.uk
Server: cache1.service.virginmedia.net
Address: 194.168.4.100

DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.
DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.
DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.
*** Request to cache1.service.virginmedia.net timed-out

I tried again a few minutes later and got this..???

C:\Users\Vickie>nslookup www.parkrun.org.uk
Server: cache1.service.virginmedia.net
Address: 194.168.4.100

*** cache1.service.virginmedia.net can't find www.parkrun.org.uk: Server failed

Then:

C:\Users\Vickie>nslookup www.parkrun.org.uk 8.8.8.8
Server: google-public-dns-a.google.com
Address: 8.8.8.8

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: varnish.production.parkrun.com
Address: 93.93.129.84
Aliases: www.parkrun.org.uk

Hope you can help.

Are you using the Goole Public DNS either on your Router or PC?

Re: 'Google Chrome could not find'.. website connection problem

What's your setup?

I.e. are you running a Superhub? Is it standalone or connected to another Router?

What is your PC Operating System?

Re: 'Google Chrome could not find'.. website connection problem

Apologies I've not been back sooner.

The reason I asked for the 2 nslookups, was that the first just uses the default DNS server, in your case Virginmedia's, whereas the second told your PC to do the lookup using a different server, in this case Google's Public DNS server.

There appears to be a problem with your connection getting information from VM's DNS.

can you post a tracert to 194.168.4.100 please?

Re: 'Google Chrome could not find'.. website connection problem

Thanks for the replies.

I have a Superhub downstairs with a PC upstairs with a VM Netgear Wireless Adapter.

Tracert result:

C:\Users\Vickie>tracert 194.168.4.100

Tracing route to cache1.service.virginmedia.net [194.168.4.100]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 11 ms 9 ms 8 ms cpc3-leic16-2-0-gw.8-1.cable.virginmedia.com [82
.30.120.1]
2 9 ms 13 ms 8 ms leic-core-2b-ae6-756.network.virginmedia.net [82
.3.36.229]
3 7 ms 22 ms 8 ms cache1.service.virginmedia.net [194.168.4.100]

Trace complete.

I hope I have done this right!
