Can understand you anger been there done that. However VM cable is put into a ridged plastic tube before it is placed underground it is then recovered with soil to surround the plastic tube so if you believe that your underground cable is being affected by vermin think you might be wrong on that one.When the VM tech arrives next time get him to check connecting cable to your box.When we had this issue the tech put a additional connection device between the cable and the box
