lost a channel and needing help

Please -- is there any one out there who can give me guidance (yes I don't what I'm doing) as to what is best step to take when a favourite channel breaks up (sound and visuals) and then you get a blank screen with that purply message telling you to contact Virgin Media? I'm sure there's something I could do/try first without that phone call. I've switched the Tivo box off then on again. Nothing changed.

Is it that restart option for the Tivo box? -- the one you get via the Help thread on the Tivo box? Dare I press that one? 

Thanks, if you can help. I miss my favourite channel .......

Rebooting does exactly the same as resetting now as the boxes no longer have viewing cards, so your box contacts the server every time it is rebooted.

If you have done a reboot there is not much you can do. Missing channels are usually the result of your downstream signals being out of tolerance, which will require an engineer to sort out

Thanks. Learner question now: is 'switching on and off' a 'reboot'? And: how would that differ from a 'restart'?
