Re: how can i stop my lodger plugging his box into my virgin

Even if he plugs the box into the cable, it won't be connected to your account. Only directly issued Virgin TV boxes to you will be connected to your account.

If your lodger doesn't have an account for the TiVo box he has, it won't work.

Re: how can i stop my lodger plugging his box into my virgin

Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm not at home to check right now) but don't TiVo boxes still have viewing cards?

The lack of a valid viewing card would surely stop him too?

TiVo boxes don't have Smartcards anymore. They are authorised as part of a connection back to Virgin Media.

oh brilliant, thank you so much.  I have been worrying that he will bring his own box and start using my account.

Thanks

Virgin systems can also tell, within a certain distance, whether equipment is being used in the area it is registered to operate. Move the kit to an area controlled by a different optical node & unless an account address change is registered it gets disconnected.

In other words, only equipment on YOUR account (which only you can alter) is registered at YOUR address. If he starts using equipment registered at another address he will still be paying for it at the old address, but is likely to find it ceases to work after a few days.
