We know that the subtitles should be available, we just can't get them to work.

We don't have a TIVO box so we don't have a subtitles button on our remote.

You can currenly only get subtitles in Catch Up via iPlayer on TiVo. For iPlayer on V boxes and all other Catch Up services across both TiVo and iPlayer, subtitles aren't currently available.

Re: Sub titles on Catch Up TV

Hi Dodge8,

Thanks for your post and welcome to the forums. It's great having you here and getting involved in the Community. Smiley Happy

Subtitles are mainly available on live TV channels. Some streaming or On Demand services may not offer subtitles. We promise that whenever subtitles are made available by a broadcaster, you'll be able to see them on Virgin TV.

You can turn on subtitles on your TiVo® box by simply pressing the'Subtitles' button on your remote. Smiley Happy

If you have any further questions, come back and let us know.

Thanks,

We know that the subtitles should be available, we just can't get them to work.

We don't have a TIVO box so we don't have a subtitles button on our remote.

We wondered if the problem was that we have an old blue remote.

We did phone 150 for help and with the help of the assistant, we got to the point where the subtitles should appear on the screen, but they were not there.

The programme we were trying to watch with subtitles was on the BBC iplayer and subtitles are definitely available for the programme.

The option for turning on and off the subtitles was accessed using the blue button on our remote.

When we press the blue button to turn on the subtitles the option changes to 'hide subtitles', but no subtitles appeared.

At this point we gave up, but we would like to know what's going wrong. Can you please help?

Thanks David.

Re: Sub titles on Catch Up TV

Hi Dodge8,

Thanks for the response!

Can you check the subtitles in the Settings for me?

Just press Menu on the remote control then select Settings, Change Display and Audio Settings and then check Subtitles When Available.

I've also sent you a more up to date remote control. You should receive it within 3 - 5 working days.

Look forward to hearing from you!  Smiley Very Happy

Josh

Re: Sub titles on Catch Up TV

Thank you for your reply. That explains it then. Will everyone eventually be upgraded to a TiVo box?

Re: Sub titles on Catch Up TV

Always a possibility although as there are millions of existing V boxes it would take a while.

However you can always choose to upgrade to TiVo before that happens. In general the costs are pretty low. It would cost a one off £9.99 for delivery and then no more than £5 a month to swap to a 500GB TiVo.

If you don't have TiVo already then you should also be able to move to a current bundle deal which could cancel out the monthly increase.

Re: Sub titles on Catch Up TV

I don't understand why subtitles are available only on live TV but almost never on Virgin Catch up. The argument always used is that the broadcasters don't provide them. But they provided them for the live stuff in the first place. I don't follow.
