I need to move my TV box ten yards along the wall

Hi,

Just got a new TV and I need to move my Virgin TV box ten yards along the wall as my new TV wont fit were the old one use to sit.

Virgin have quoted me £100 for their engineer to come out which I refuse to pay.

Is there another option excluding having a long extension wire running along the wall ?

Is there any type TV transmitter I can use to create a wireless connection to the TV from Virgins TV box? can I pay for a non Virgin engineer to move this box,how hard is it?

Assuming you leave the TiVo where it is to avoid the £99 charge, you could go with a long HDMI cable to the TV's new position.

Go with the long HDMI solution, which is far cheaper than getting a VM engineer in, or trying to DIY it & messing up the entire local network (for which you could be liable). VM use specialised coax for their network cabling, which is also remains their property, so people like aerial installers wont touch it.

Re: I need to move my TV box ten yards along the wall

HDMI is fine for a special show or football match but I can't have a wire across the living room with young kids in the house, accident waiting to happen.I might just leave the TV package all together and connect my internet up to TV, at least I would save on package and TV licence.

I offered to sign up to a long term contract if I was to get the switch for free but they were not interested, when your spending £600 + a year you would think they would be more helpful! oh well thanks anyway.

Re: I need to move my TV box ten yards along the wall

You can get HD wireless senders to transmit between the box & TV, but they currently cost about twice as much as you would pay VM to move your TiVO where you want it.

Even if you moved the TiVO you would still have a trailling wire anyway.
