Great new channel on Freeview 81 called Talking Pictures TV. When will it be available on VM?

New channel on Freeview 81 called Talking Pictures TV which is showing lots of vintage movies that are just fantastic.  Great concept and long overdue.  When will it be available on VM?  Soon I hope.

The channel is available nationally on Sky (343), but have chosen not to join Freesat. They have also chosen the "cheap" option on Freeview, by taking a spare slot on MUX 7 which only has limited coverage, & requires Freeview HD reception equipment. Joining Freesat would certainly cost them far less than joining Virgin, so dont get too excited just yet.

Yep. Its on an HD Mux despite being an SD channel, so the reception equipment must be Freeview HD capable.

Many thanks for reply. It's listed as being broadcast from my local transmitter but retuning my video recorder and tv does not pick it up. Do I need FV HD reception on both?

Thanks Nodrogd,

That's really helpful.  It tells me where to focus if I want to try to get this channel, though why they would restrict it like this is hard to understand.

Re: Great new channel on Freeview 81 called Talking Pictures TV. When will it be available on VM?

With the government insisting on stealing more spectrum off of DTT for 4G & 5G services in the near future, channels will have to fit into less space. Freeview HD muxes are more compressed, so use less space. Freeview HD will shortly become the "norm" with all DTT reception equipment.

Still no sign of this excellent channel on Virgin Media.  Sky, Freeview and Freesat all have it now.  (can't remember if I've mentioned this before Smiley Wink )

Re: Great new channel on Freeview 81 called Talking Pictures TV. When will it be available on VM?

I hope Virgin Media might help Talking Pictures TV a bit - it would be an additional selling point for VM TV bundles.  Also, I cannot so far get FREEVIEW SD (or any other terrestial TV) which was one factor of installing VM, so I cannot get Talking Pictures, even though the channel 'is available in my area'.

I certainly hope that VM don't "help" Talking Pictures, I don't want them wasting my payments. How on earth would it be "additional selling point for VM TV bundles" for subscribers wanting Pay TV.

Since there are various postings around the web suggesting that Talking Pictures don't even pay enough so that all Freeview users can receive the channels, I think that they should sort out their own problems first.

Nice to be able to post again, after their mistake (removed by the Censorship team).

Re: Great new channel on Freeview 81 called Talking Pictures TV. When will it be available on VM?

Only public service channels HAVE to have universal availability (& the government want to end this). All the others are subject to commercial agreements with the channel owners. The only way channels get a "helping hand" is to sign an exclusive agreement with a platform (eg ITV Encore, AMC), & we all know what annoyance that causes.
