BBC2 HD and Channel 5 HD

I've not used my Virgin HD box for a while  but reconnected it last weekend.  Most channels are fine but BBC3 HD and Channel 5 HD both come up with "Channel currently unavailable, try again later".  All the other HD channels I've tried work fine along with all the SD ones.

I was using an old school Coax socket so changed it to a proper BNC one.  That improved the signal and error rate substantially but the BBC3 and C5 problems persist.

I'm in the Cambridge area.  Anyone else having trouble?

Thanks

Paul

Re: BBC2 HD and Channel 5 HD

No wonder you are having issues. Under no circumstances modify VM's network cabling. You should never use standard coax plugs or BNC connectors as these allow RF ingress into the local network, which as well as causing issues on your equipment, could track back to the street amplifier & affect all your neighbours services. Virgin use specialised cable & 'F' type connectors. Yes I know it costs £99 to call out a tech to do wiring alterations, but your bill could be far bigger if you are found to be fouling the rest of the local network with interference.

Re: BBC2 HD and Channel 5 HD

I haven't touched VM's cabling.  VM installed originally to a termination box in the airing cupboard from where it's routed to the rooms where the TV and cable modem are via the house's internal CT100.  All I've done is swap the old coax socket by the TV with an F socket.  BNC was a typo due to lack of coffee early in the day.

Re: BBC2 HD and Channel 5 HD

Ah. So you are internally wired. However, if CT100 is installed, its not up to Virgin's specs, as its only double screened (Virgin spec calls for triple screened cable internal to properties & is specially made, but Webro HD100 is the nearest equivalent). It is certainly a possibility that there are signal issues. VM can run tests on the box remotely if you either call faults or wait for a VM Forum Team member to respond.

Re: BBC2 HD and Channel 5 HD

I get what you're saying but the original engineer installed it this way and was happy with the cabling, even commentating that it was nice to see a builder who'd done it properly for once.  It's been there for 6 years without problems, I've just not been using the TV box for a while.

I'm at work so posted today in the hope a forum techie would respond but if there's no joy by tomorrow I'll ring them over the weekend.

Re: BBC2 HD and Channel 5 HD

Hi Paul,

Thanks for posting.

I'm very sorry to hear you've lost BBC3 HD and Channel 5 HD. You've also mentioned BBC2 HD in the title so not sure if this is a typing error (lack of coffee maybe).

I've not been able to locate your account on this occasion to run tests.

Have you called in since posting? Has the problem been fixed?

Please let me know if you continue to have problems.

Thanks
