6 weeks of sky sports free

Received an email from Virgin Media yesterday Saturday 15th January that I had been given 6 weeks of sky sports free immediately. But the channels are still unavailable. Any one else had this and what needs to be done to access the channels?

I had same problem rang up was told its a technical thing.Was put through to tech and they sorted it out all working now.

I had the same email - which said "We've already added the Sky Sports channels to your line-up, so the only finger you'll have to lift in the one that finds 'sports' on you Virgin TV box'.

It seemed to quote my account number, and I was looking forward to seeing the rugby and football over the weekend. But got nothing. Trying to access the channels just led me to the subscription page, which then told me to phone Virgin to add the channels!

I feel very disappointed that Virgin can send out emails like this and then fail to implement them properly!

How many others got the email without getting the promised channels I wonder?

Yes, have just been on the phone for half an hour.

Initially went through to the tech helpline but they didn't seem to know about the promotion. Made me read out the email and then bounced me over to customer services.

Chap at customer services said that the tech team should have sorted it but he had the ability to sort it (so it's not really a tech issue if customer services can sort it). All they do is ping a signal to the tivo boxes.

All you need to do is keep scrolling through the sports channels and the sky sports STANDARD channels will appear after a couple of minutes. We hung around for a another 10 minutes to see whether the HD channels would appear but after he put me on hold and checked, it transpired that the promotion is for STANDARD def channels only. (The email could do with being a little bit clearer on this, just to save confusion.)

I work for a company that has these type of call centres (with tech specialist teams) and avoiding these sorts of unnecessary transfers and customer hold times are all about internal communications and generally being organised about how you implement promotions. Not quite sure Virgin Media got this one right but hey, it's something for nothing so it would be churlish to complain about time wasted.

Why should the email need to be clearer?

It clearly states "Sky Sports" and  doesn't mention HD. Anyone with any knowledge of the Sky Sports channels, and I suspect that this freebie is targeted at an audience that they know like Sports and probably once had the channels, knows that there are two versions of the channels, SD and HD.

I also suspect that this offer is, indirectly, from Sky as there is not much benefit to VM from customers starting to pay for the channels. There have been other promotions running recently, I got one for these channels on Now TV.

Nice to be able to post again, after their mistake (removed by the Censorship team).

Alright, fair enough Frank but I don't watch the sports channels (the missus does) so to me a "Sky Sports" promotion includes everything that has the branding.

I was merely making the point that to some people it wasn't clear what was on offer and so they may waste time on the phone unnecessarily. The call centre agents didn't seem to know what the promotion entailed either so it would appear that you are the only person that knows what's going on. Well done you!
