3009 smart card invalid

Ok. So i gave in and called virgin who sent new box. One call to connect it they said. Ha! Over 2 hours later and still no service as invalid smart card. Apparently have to wait for signal as automated one @30min did not work but this one should resolve issue in 2-3hours.
Anyone else experienced this? What is the issue?
