Why does the V6 box need ethernet to router ?

Changed my package to get a new v6 box instead of the slow old tivo and vivid 300 with superhub 3, but on the phone they said ideally the router should be near the v6 box. However ever since ive had virgin ive had the router upstairs and the tivo downstairs, if its just an ethernet to between the router and v6 i can just run it through my powerline but im hoping someone can tell me the exact reason why it needs the connection ?

V6 requires a connection to your home network, primarily for EPG and firmware updates, as well as for apps access to the Internet.

This connection can be either direct Ethernet cable, powerline adapters or wifi. Your powerlines should be fine.
