V6 standby question

Does the hard drive/fan keep spinning when in standby? I have noticed when the room is quiet and box in standby a constant whirring sound, not loud, but if in a bedroom may be a problem. Also box stays warm after many hours in standby?

Really pleased with overall performance of V6....so much faster than old TiVo!

Re: V6 standby question

With the box in standby, bring it out of standby and see if the noise you are hearing changes in any way.

With the box in standby, turn off the box and see if the noise is external to the V6.

If you do these tests, ensure first that your V6 is not recording or updating its EPG.

Re: V6 standby question

What do you Power Saving settings say in 'System -> Devices' ??

You may have it set to record suggestions while in standby

Re: V6 standby question

AFAIK, there is no fan in V6 and the disk should not be spinning in standby, unless the EPG is being updated or a program is being recorded.

Are you sure the box is in standby - LED is red?

Re: V6 standby question

Thanks for response. Put box in standby, whirring noise continued, no external devise making noise. Switched box on, very slight 'chugging' noise from disk (normal on startup?) then same whirring sound. No recording or update in progress during switch off.

Re: V6 standby question

So, the whirring sound in standby is the same as the whirring sound when you bring the box out of standby?

We know that V6 constantly buffers when not in standby to ensure all tuners can be re-wound.

Your observations would suggest your box continues to buffer when in standby.

I'm at a loss to explain what you are seeing.

When your box comes out of standby, does each tuner have a full buffer or has each buffer just started?

Perhaps, like me, you suffer from tinnitus?

Re: V6 standby question

I think it must be constantly buffering. Def not tinnitus 🙉.

Do you think I should contact support or just ignore it ? Box working perfectly.

Re: V6 standby question

If it's buffering in standby, you can check that easily by checking if each tuner has a full or empty buffer when coming out of standby. V6 (and TiVo) should not continue to buffer in standby - that would defeat the power saving benefits.
