V6 remote not working in cabinet

I just got a v6 box installed and was told that you didn't need to point the remote at the box and it would work if it was in a cabinet with no direct line of sight.

I have tried several times but the box doesn't respond when in the cabinet unless I am less than a foot away.

Any ideas?

Re: V6 remote not working in cabinet

....it will only work in a cabinet, once the remote is 'Paired' with your V6.

To pair the remote, you need to do this:

1. Go to Home > Help & Settings > Settings > Devices > Remote Control Pairing.

2. Press and hold the Info button for 7 seconds until the light at the top of the remote goes solid green then flashes green twice.

Or, by using the Virgin TV V6 box and remote:

1. Press the Channel Down button on the front of the Virgin TV V6 box for 10 seconds.

2. Then, hold the Info button down on the remote for 7 seconds. The light on the top of the remote will flash green twice.

Re: V6 remote not working in cabinet

Do you have a V6 remote and have you paired it to your V6?

Home > Help & Settings > Settings > Devices > Remote Control Pairing

Re: V6 remote not working in cabinet

Hi, I have just had a V6 box installed and I noticed that the sound button and the mute button does not work.  I did look here for the answer and after reading the articles above, thought that I had found the solution.  Unfortunately after trying both methods several times nether has worked yet, is this just a matter of keep trying or is there another solution please?

....that link provided by Gwalker124 above, does indeed work - you must be following it incorrectly.  In order for the sound and mute to work with your TV, you need to find the correct code for your TV.

Sometimes, the automatic scanning (where you press the 'Channel Up' button until your TV switches off) won't necessarily work (it didn't with my Samsung) - you'll need to manually input each and every code (one at a time), until you find one that works.

The codes for TVs, can be found here:

https://assets.virginmedia.com/help/assets/documents/vm-tivo-code-list2012.pdf

As previously said, you need to try each and every code for your make of TV, one at a time, until you hit one that works.

Re: V6 remote not working in cabinet

Hi, thanks for your much appreciated input.  I accepted the fact that I may not have carried out the pairing as per instructions and therefore tried again (carefully!), this did not work.  I too have a Samsung TV and I inputted each and all of the codes one at a time to see if that would work, unfortunately none did, I can only assume that the remote may be faulty and I will give VM a call to see about another handset, but thanks again anyway.  I forgot to say that during trying to pair, all of the remote lights gave the correct indication as to successful pairing.
