V6 box connection

Can someone please explain why the new v6 box needs an ethernet cable, isn't it wireless?  Thanks

Re: V6 box connection

It doesn't need an ethernet cable. Connection can be wifi, powerline or ethernet cable.

Re: V6 box connection

Hi poohbear,

Thanks for your post and it's a great question Smiley Happy

The box is indeed wireless meaning you are able to connect that way however our preferred way would be ethernet cable. A wifi connection is shared by all connected devices in the home so it's not as stable as a direct connection.

If there is a lot of wifi traffic in the home it can slow down all connected devices which in turn can impact the viewing experience of some of the services the V6 box has.

As an ethernet connection doesn't contribute to the wireless traffic in the home, it provides the fastest possible connection and therefore the reason we recommend this instead Smiley Happy

If you have any further questions, pop back and post them here.

Thanks,

Re: V6 box connection

WiFi connections share a limited amount of bandwidth. Direct CAT5/e bandwidth is much bigger, but the box could still be impacted if you have a lot of wired devices on your home network and are transferring large amount of data between them. The way to fix the later problem is to use a programmable network switch that can give priority to certain ports.
