Netflix picture quality on V6 box

Hi all,

I have the V6 box and the picture quality on Netflix on it isn't as good quality as it is on other platforms I use to watch it.
The box is connected via Ethernet to my 200mb internet.
My TV is a Samsung 4K UHD TV.
Picture is great in other platforms/hardware.

Any obvious suggestions I'm not getting?

Thanks,

Reece

Re: Netflix picture quality on V6 box

I just posted a similar thing yesterday. I suspect the Netflix app just isn't as good as for other devices.

Re: Netflix picture quality on V6 box

I wonder why not though when you consider the specs of the V6?!

Re: Netflix picture quality on V6 box

Maybe they just used the app from an older TiVo box.

Re: Netflix picture quality on V6 box

A couple of things for people to try.

First let some time pass to make sure it's buffered to the best quality HD it can get from your connection be that 1080p or 4k. It can take up to a few minutes before it will show 4k.

Or people could try changing the video output settings. I'd try ticking 1080i, 1080p pass through and 2160p pass through and leave the others unticked. What this will do is allow 1080p or 4k material to be either scaled by the TV rather than the V6 box or outputted untouched to the TV.

Great, thanks! Pass through seems to have fixed the problem.

I just have a standard HD TV but one thing I did notice - when watching Netflix, my tv setting defaults to 1920x1080 24p however, when watching normal TV through the V6, the TV then defaults to 1920x1080 50i. Why is this?

...and just to further add to this - Netflix on my Apple TV plays in 1920x1080 50p mode.

Re: Netflix picture quality on V6 box

That's correct. Broadcast TV is generally in 1080i where as Netflix is usually 1080p.

Broadcast HD in the UK is 1080i and that's why having 1080i ticked in the V6 options should be best. The V6 will output 1080i untouched and will allow the TV to scale the image properly. Most TVs should have better scalers than boxes such as the V6. Netflix can output films and TV shows at 1080p and 4k. Having 1080i ticked and 1080p/4K pass through ticked will allow the V6 box to pass through the 1080p/4k output from Netflix straight to the TV with no interruption from the V6. I believe the 50/24 is how it is filmed so could depend on what you are watching.
