Connecting to old Tivo Box

We have just had a new V6 box installed and are just trying to connect it to the old Tivo box.

Both are in the living room, the V6 is connected to the home network via wifi, and to the old Tivo box via ethernet cable.

The old box is listed under the recordings on the V6, but is greyed out, and am getting a message about not being connected, despite the test seeming to work OK.

Should this work, or does the old Tivo box need to be connected directly to the router, rather than daisy chained to the V6 via ethernet?

Re: Connecting to old Tivo Box

The tivo has to be connected to the router not the v6

Re: Connecting to old Tivo Box

OK thanks. Just out of curiosity, is there a technical reason its not possible just by connecting the two boxes via ethernet?

Re: Connecting to old Tivo Box

Because that's not how it works. That is the technical answer.

All the V6 box networking connections will go via the connection to the Hub / router, so your other box also needs to be connected to the Hub / router.

All Virgin TV boxes also needed to be connected to a coax connection. They won't work with just a broadband network connection.

Re: Connecting to old Tivo Box

OK, I think I thought that the ethernet connection essentially extends the wifi connection between the two boxes, so essentially connected them both to the same network. I assumed that was how the V6 box at least sees the old Tivo as another box under 'My Recordings', but just isn't pulling through the actual recordings.

Both boxes are connected to the cable network via co-ax.

Re: Connecting to old Tivo Box

It won't work unless both are getting a valid IP address in the same home network. That can only happen when they're both connected to the router that'll issue the IP addresses.

Re: Connecting to old Tivo Box

Thanks Ben - like I say, just curious really. Not trying to be a pain Smiley Happy

Have ordered a power line which should presumably work.
