Broadband requirements for V6

Can anyone explain to me why virgin refused to upgrade my TiVo to the new V6 because I only have 150mb broadband? According to them I need 200mb for it to work. As an IT network consultant I can't see technically why this would matter unless the V6 is abnormally bandwidth intensive

Re: Broadband requirements for V6

The new bundles that come with a v6 are 100meg or 200meg,your legacy broadband speed cant be applied to the new v6 bundles

Is that actually true? Anyway he wasn't talking about bundles, just upgrading TiVo to the V6 which shouldn't be a problem as the OP has at least 100Mb. Surely VM wouldn't refuse a sale over something so stupid?

The minimum speed that you can have the V6 with is 100Mb. This is because the V6 doesn't have an internal modem so VM want to make sure you have a high enough speed for 4k streaming along with other users still being able to use the Internet.

Are you on 150Mb or 152Mb which is waiting for the free speed upgrade to 200Mb.

For me personally there should be no reason why you can't upgrade a TiVo to a V6 but I don't work for VM so can't give you an official answer.

Phone them and speak to Retentions (the 'Thinking of leaving' option) - you will get more sense out of them.

Re: Broadband requirements for V6

A speed of 15-25 Mbps should be sufficient for 4K though

Re: Broadband requirements for V6

Correct, but if you only have 50Mbps, then that's up to half of your speed taken by the V6 if you are streaming 4K content.

So with the V6 being available with 100Mbps as a minimum then it has lower impact on the rest of your broadband usage.
