no dial tone and hand set says "check phone line" however if you ring landline from a mobile it rings at mobile end and not on landline

I have checked your line and I'm unable to find any faults so I would just like to confirm whether you have tried a different handset in the Virgin Media socket just to rule out any equipment fault?
