Why do I get an echo on my landline when making international calls?

Hi

My wife generally uses our landline for international calls (to family in Ireland) and get a very bad echo, making it hard to follow a conversation (her voice echoes over the response from the person called). This has been happening since we have the service installed a few months ago, but she has only just mention to me. The landline is a handsfree rather than a wired phone, but we never had this issue with our previous phone supplier, BT. Could you look into it?

Many thanks

Nick

you normally get an echo when the person at the other end has their volume too loud, your voice comes out of their earpiece  and is picked up by the mic and goes back up the line to your earpiece

Many thanks for your quick response. That makes sense as the persons being called are elderly so likely to have the speaker volume high.
