Phone line not working and I don't know my new number

Hi. I had Virgin installed today. Two Tivo boxes, Internet and Telephone.

Tivo and Internet are working but switched my phone over to the Virgin phone line on the wall and nothing. No dial tone and unable to dial on. Plugged back in to BT and it works fine.

I wasn't told my phone number either.

Help please.

I remember having this issue.  The VM cable is actually two cables, one for broadband & TV and the other for telephone.  They both need to be connected to the local street cabinet and my installers had forgotten to connect the telephone one.

Suggest you call the UK based Retention team tomorrow during normal office hours on 0345 454 1111 and follow the prompts to 'Thinking of leaving us'  1  >  4  >  5  and ask them to arrange for an engineer to return and connect the phone.

If as you say the BT line is still live, you may be able to get them to port your old number across to the Virgin socket ... that's what we did.

Simon, just a further thought on this.  I wonder if the VM installer used the old BT socket to connect the new line  ... it has been known.

Try dialling 174 and if it's connected to VM an automated voice will tell you what your new phone number is.  If you get no response, then try dialling 17070 and if you get a response it should prove if BT is still connected.
