Phone fault rectified - but up to 24 hours before it works

Our phone went dead 2 days ago; no dialling tone, nothing.  By VMs Live Chat, an appointment was made for today.  The internal socket was ok, as was the outside box.  The engineer said that although it had been rectified, it would be up to 24 hours before it would take effect.  Could someone tell me why it can take so long?

Re: Phone fault rectified - but up to 24 hours before it works

Hi there cyrix,

Very sorry to hear about the telephone fault mentioned in your post.

We always advise that any changes made regarding the telephone line may take up to 24 hours to take effect, purely due to the fact that we must send instructions to the guys and gals over at the exchange to make the appropriate changes required.

Hope this helps,

Nat_J

Re: Phone fault rectified - but up to 24 hours before it works

Well, 24 hours has passed and the phone is still dead.  They will call again on Monday, which means the phone will have been out of use for 7 days.

Hi cyrix

I'm sorry for the continued problems you're experiencing with your phone line, from looking at your account I can that see a senior engineer is planned to visit on Monday and I'd love to hear how that appointment goes.

Re: Phone fault rectified - but up to 24 hours before it works

When the engineer called yesterday (Thurs) I pointed out to him that our outside box didn't seem particularly strong, and that I had to secure the cover with sticky tape. He did clip back the cover, and it now looks more secure. But my wife pointed out the fact that there looked like a loose wire was hanging out of the mass of wires.

Re: Phone fault rectified - but up to 24 hours before it works

Two engineers arrived on time, and rectified the fault in about 5 minutes, plus informing the exchange to connect us immediately. Apparently the exchange had been having some recent problems with reconnections.  But it's nice to have it working again!
