Since I had Virgin installed in July my home phone has had an intermittent problem. Someone rings the house and if I miss it and it goes to voicemail I then cannot ring out on my phone for HOURS and sometime even days. It just beeps and tells me 'line in use'. People are also unable to ring in. It's a huge frustration because I have no mobile signal in my house so lots of the time I have no communication with the outside world. Not ideal if I need to make or take a business call.
I have no idea how to clear my line or why this happens - any advice?

I have tested your line and I'm not finding any faults so before I can look into arranging a technician I just need to check whether you have tried a different handset in the Virgin Media socket to rule out any equipment fault?
