Yet again, when I called for help I got the "it's your handset" message. Yet again I explained I DON'T HAVE A SECOND HANDSET TO TRY.
Yet again, I was told if I book an engineer there will be a callout charge if it's the handset. I'm fairly sure it isn't, because my landline is forever going offline due to vandalism in the street box, it's never the handset. Anyhow, I tried to ascertain how much the callout charge would be, but failed to get a straight answer. I've booked the engineer anyway, but I'm curious how much it will cost me in the very unlikely event it's not a line problem.
