Getting "line cord error" on home phone

Hello,

i never had a phone installed when the engineer come round to setup the broadband and TV as I didn't have a phone at the time. I have since come across a cordless phone I could use so I have plugged it into the virgin hub 3 but the phone just says "line cord error". 

I have restarted both the phone/cradle and the hub but still the same error. Please help.
